Compared to the noise generated by machines re-surfacing a road a block away, or the cumulated cacophony of trucks gear shifting while cornering, cranes are quiet neighbours.
The roadworks were completed on the Friday before Christmas and many truckies have been taking a break too. Building sites throughout the city are still ; tools downed for the holidays.
Crane watchers can admire them as they rest. At night some are lit up green and red (for the season ?) but most seem to be just waiting patiently for the year’s work to begin.
Yellow signs and barriers appear on the roads; the daily traffic builds up again. Cranes begin to move and turn, like the hands on a clock, ticking towards a new skyline and a new view.
Happy New Year from all at Kettlestitch Press.
